13/11/2014

About this Event

A night of Motown, Atlantic Soul, Stax and Northern Soul!

MissChivers will be joined on the decks by Shaun Owen and Derek Smiley.

Shaun Owen is a heavy weight in the soul promotions, part of Heavy Soul and a monthly presenter on Stomp Radio (stompradio.com)

Derek Smiley is a regular installation at the Sunny Hunny Weekenders.

B-Side Project and Last Night A DJ Saved My Life Foundation are launching Breaking Boundaries in 2014 with the first focus on two specific projects managed by Sense International and Sense UK.

Various music events and competitions will take place in 2014 for music and club lovers to enjoy and engage with, and B-Side Project founder and Director of Beats Foundation Yvette Chivers is undertaking a 14 date DJ tour across August and September and a 10-day trek to Machu Pichhu in October for the cause. Whilst in Peru, Yvette will also be visiting Sense International to volunteer with their new project with music workshops and experience first-hand how the funds can really make a difference. The new project in Peru has a range of activities from helping deafblind children access basic education, home-based support and therapy, assistive devices, vocational training for deaf blind adults.

Yvette will also be working closely with the Sense team at Woodside Family Centre project in Bristol. Woodside is a special place for families to come together to sing and play during their weekly sessions; Woodpeckers and Twiglets. There is also a large assortment of toys and activities for making music, story and picture books to share, messy fun in the sand and water tray, plus dressing up or pretending in the home. The Centre has several rooms, each providing a different environment for children to explore.

DJ and radio presenter Yvette (MissChivers) herself suffers from a degenerative eye condition known as Retinitis Pigmentosa;

“I truly believe that music has kept me positive throughout. It is one of the most important things to me. Although I am registered partially sighted, to me it is totally incomprehensible to have hearing loss too. There are young people and children with blind deaf issues who are so far less fortunate, but who can be really helped through music therapy projects that Sense facilitates.”

The ‘home and away’ campaign to generate awareness and funds for these projects hopes to continue year after year and encourage those who work and perform in the dance music industry, as well as dance music fans, to follow with similar actions. Breaking down geographical boundaries, and educating people on the amazing work that is done, and the inspirational results that are achieved.
