‘The excitement around Blaenavon feels grass-roots and uncynical in a way that only a really young band can be.’ – NME

‘It’s mightily refreshing to hear such an exciting young band.’ – Crack in the Road

‘Tightly wound, instantly accessible alt-pop that soars in all the right places.’ – The Line of Best Fit

‘Buoyed with the sort of searing, soaring chorus most bands take a lifetime to perfect.’ – Clash

If you want solidly good, melodic, headstrong music then look no further.’ – Abeano

‘You wouldn’t have them pinned as a band of precision and maturity. But debut track, March;s ‘Into The Night’ is just those things’. - Wonderland

‘Into the Night’ and ‘Denim Patches’ the SOLD OUT debut release from Hampshire’s Blaenavon which came out on Transgressive imprint paradYse marked the teenage trio out as a band to keep a close watch on. Sold out shows, support across BBC’s Radio 1 and 6 Music plus nods from tastemakers; Abeano, NME, Line Of Best Fit, Wonderland, The Fly and Clash.

Transgressive Records released the bands follow up EP ‘KOSO’ on 23rd September 2013. First track on the EP ‘Gods’ originally began as a 10-minute banjo piece, but, after some restructuring, is a five-minute triumph of soaring vocals and powerful guitars. ‘Wunderkind’ has an almost dreamy feel to it and brings a warmer, slower sound to the EP. The lyrics highlight and challenge the struggle of teen romance, whilst harmonics on the guitar are frequented to add to the dreamy nature of the piece. Prague which will be the lead single from the EP lulls you into a false sense of security, its delicately picked verses and soft vocals build into an absolute powerhouse of an ending that hits with the force of a tornado. ‘Lost in Paris’, provides a more romantic moment and is, in frontman Ben’s words, “one for the mothers”. With the feelings of a traditional waltz behind it, it brings a new edge to the classic rock guitar lines that are peppered throughout, brilliantly combining two very disparate influences.

Blaenavon’s line-up is; Ben Gregory (Vocals. Age17), Frank Wright (Bass. Age18) and Harris McMillan (Drums. Age18). Blaenavon’s songs are suffused with need and vulnerability, the music leaves itself open, waiting to be approached and ultimately the beauty of both tracks come from their subtlety.

The band will finish school in June, 2014 at which point Album sessions will commence alongside a long list of Festivals & Summer shows the band have planned.
