The addition of new bassist Miles Cocker in June of 2014 has cemented Youth Man as one of the most formidable and exciting live bands in the country, who leave a trail of trashed instruments, feedback and ringing ears in their wake.
Their early shows in 2012, opening for Them Wolves, Bovine, Shapes, PINS, Fair Ohs, Sauna Youth and Her Parents among others, quickly built the band a rabid and loyal following in their home town. Headwounds and trashed stages ensured the word spread quickly.
The band recorded their first EP, 'Bad Weather', in July 2013 at the Motor Museum in Liverpool with Al Groves (Elvis Costello, The Coral) on production duties, raking in a slew of stellar reviews which saw NME hailing it as "five tracks of raw and wreckless thrills" and Rock Sound enthusing about their "impressive Dead Kennedy's style creepy fury".
Debut single 'Heavy Rain' outstripped all of the band's expectations, racking up multiple BBC Radio One plays from Zane Lowe (who picked the band as his Next Hype selection three times in 2 weeks), Ally McCrae & Jen Long, Phily Taggart & Alice Levine and Mike Davies' Punk Show, and also saw coverage from XFM, Amazing Radio and many more.
The single launch for 'Heavy Rain' saw them sell out hometown venue The Sunflower Lounge in November and embark on their first UK tour in January 2014.
Summer of 2014 was the point at which Youth Man really got their feet under the table. They took their live show to a string of festivals, including Y Not, 2000trees, The Great Escape, Liverpool Sound City and Live at Leeds, and ended the year supporting, among others, Sleaford Mods and Pissed Jeans, and touring with Solemn Sun.
Youth Man are the band you will wish you saw in years to come. Their live show is a shrieking, thrilling wrecking-ball of human bodies, flailing limbs and chaos. With their currently emerging plans for 2015, and the band more inspired and revitalized than ever, brace yourself for much more from them.
Youth Man are coming for you.. Make sure you're ready.
