It’s taken plenty of patience, self-belief and perhaps a little bit of luck for The Milk to get where they find themselves today. The four-piece made up of childhood friends Rick Nunn, Dan Legresley and siblings Mitch and Luke Aylingreleased their debut album, Tales from the Thames Deltavia Sony in 2012 to much critical acclaim.

Although it covered all of their eclectic sensibilities, and earned them a loyal army of fans as well as mainstream radio play, the band felt they had lost sight of the music that really mattered to them –the soulful sounds of 1970’s Bill Withers and Isaac Hayes, the soundtracks of Lalo Schifrin and Bill Conti and the mastery of The Isley Brothers.

These influences were what first brought The Milk together, and their ownWoods Lodge Studio became the place where they were brought to life. As the band carefully forged their song writing, they allowed themselvesthe time they needed to begin the next chapter.

That process was helped along when producer of Michael Kiwanuka’s Mercury Music Prize nominated album, and fan of The Milk, Paul Butler, offered to get on board with the LP. Favourite Worrywas recorded over the Christmas 2014 period at Butler’s Chale Abbey Studio –a stunningand inspirationalmedieval barn on The Isle of Wight. The band and the producer fitted like hand in glove and the resulting sophomore album captures not only the magical ‘voodoo’of those recording sessions, but is also a testament to exactly who the The Milk want to be.

If the collaboration withButler was perhaps some kind of serendipity, then so too was the hook up with soulful independent London record label, Wah Wah 45s. Another perfect marriage, the imprint didn’t need long to understand The Milk’s musical manifesto and came on board withoutneeding to be asked twice.

Having already released a very limited, and quickly sold out,seven-inch white label of album track Deliver Me, The Milkare now preparing for their first official single, No Interruptions. The track will drop on July 6th, andthe band will be celebrating the release just a few days before with an intimate live show at the beautiful Oslo in Hackney on July 2nd.

Favourite Worryis a soulful snapshot of where The Milk aretoday. As lead singer Rick explains, “Being childhood friends all about to turn thirty the subjects were all pretty introspective. Themes which run throughout start with confessions of remorse for having hurt some of those we love balanced out with equal measures of venom and vitriol for certain individuals who'd done us some serious wrongs.” Songs like Don't Give Up The Nightand Wanderlusttalk about the pressure of settling down and starting a familywhen all you want to do is continue the reckless selfishness of your 20s. It’s a theme that is evident throughout the album, delivered by a voice, and played by a band, that have let the ‘voodoo’ loose and are speaking from their soul.
