Azekel made his mark towards the middle of 2014 with the release of the track “New Romance” which was written and produced by him out of his flat in London, England.

The track went on to be tweeted by Azekel’s childhood hero Prince through his shortlived, but much revered @3rdeyegirl account during the autumn of 2014. It was hailed by BBC Radio DJ Lauren Laverne as one of her tracks of the year and has been streamed 1.5 Million times on Spotify.

Azekel followed up this release by dropping “Chronophobia” towards the end of 2014. This track built strongly over the next few months culminating in a radio playlist at BBC Radio 1 during the week of The Glastonbury Festival, which also saw Azekel perform live at the festival for the BBC on The Introducing Stage 2015.

This performance was streamed live on the BBC and highlights from the set have since been played on BBC Radio 1 and 6Music. Azekel has also been into the BBC’s Maida Vale studios to do a live session for Jamz Supernova and Toddla T‘s shows on BBC 1Xtra.

“Chronophobia”, “New Romance” and newest single “Mad About The Boy” are all taken from the first of Azekel’s 2-part collection “Raw, Vol.1” which was released on 12th July 2015.

This body of work has seen playlists on BBC R1, BBC 1 Xtra, BBC 6 Music, Rinse FM, Amazing Radio, support from Beats 1 in the UK and International plays from KCRW, Triple & Double J, NPR and College Radio in the U.S. There has also been significant online support from the likes of Hypetrak, thisisrnb, Pitchfork, Hypemachine top 20, St Heron, Pigeons & Planes, Line of Best Fit and DJ Booth.

Azekel has also recently teamed up with Converse through their “Rubber Tracks” initiative and recorded new material in Studio 2 at the iconic “Abbey Road studios” in London, the same studio used by The Beatles. He was one of the successful applicants in the global competition which had more than 9,000 entries worldwide.

Azekel’s hazy RnB vocals and sparse, glitch ridden productions have an unmistakable Britishness about them in line with his East London upbringing... but the music he makes has the ability to travel much further than this familiar horizon.
