Stalkers Night Northampton

08/04/2016

About this Event

By now many of you will be aware of the tragic passing of Viola Beach and their manager Craig Tarry last weekend. The band was due to play a Stalkers Night on 8th April at The Roadmender. Having spoken to the bands involved, it has been decided that we will carry on with this event.

Any profit made on this evening will go towards the families or a charity of the family’s choice.

We would like to offer our condolences to the families and friends during this difficult time.

OhBoy!

Northampton five piece, OhBoy! pick up where the New Year hangovers have left off, exploding into 2016 full of intent, announcing that they’ve signed to Alcopop! Records and are out to prove themselves as definitive ones to watch for the year ahead - with the deliciously infectious ‘The Carrot And The Stick’

Released on 22nd January via all of your favourite digital retailers, and as a significantly awesome limited edition Tee Shirt single, the video for the track has to be seen to be believed. A wonderfully cut together montage of classic on-screen footage that accompanies the band’s stand out track of their career so far.

Since forming the band have picked up some influential fans including 6 Music’s Steve Lamacq, Radio 1's Huw Stephens and Tom Ravenscroft, XFM’S John Kennedy, and NME.

OhBoy! are Lee irons (guitar), Jay Brook (guitar/vocals), Dan Battison (bass) Meg Amirghiasvand (guitar/backing vocals) and Mark Nicholas (drums). The band are developing a ever-growing fan-base with their exciting live shows, and their own brand of slacker noise pop, and recently won Lamacq’s roundtable on BBC Radio 6 Music, as well as being playlisted on XFM and stacking up a wealth of plays across Radio 1.

Viola Beach

While humbly describing themselves as a group of beer drinking pals who just happen to make music together, Warrington based four-piece band Viola Beach has caught the eyes and ears of many already including key blogs such as Pigeons & Planes, Louder Than War, NPR Music and The Music Ninja. Their first single “Swings & Waterslides” which graced the airwaves of Radio 1, 6 Music, Radio X and BBC Liverpool brings the summertime feel that makes you want to get up and dance but also has a swagger that is not often found on indie pop records. The young band was officially formed in May and consists of lead vocalist Kris Leonard, River Reeves, Tomas Lowe, and Jack Dakin. Although they have just started releasing songs, the music has the quality of a band that has been together for years, and with major moves such as working in the studio with super-producer Ian Grimble (Communion Records founder and producer for Mumford & Sons, Rhodes, Bears Den, Catfish & The Bottlemen) and opening up on “Blossoms” Headline UK/Ireland tour this year.

Fox Chapel

Fox Chapel are a four piece indie rock band from Northampton. Inspired by the likes of Diiv and Beach Fossils, they released their dreamy, melodious single 'Imagery' back in January this year. They have played BBC introducing stage at Northampton Music Festival 2014, Main stage at Truck Festival 2015, Strawberry Fields Festival 2015, and have shared a stage with Saint Raymond, Temples, VANT, Pleasure House and many more. I was lucky enough to catch them on the main stage at Truck Festival and they did not let me down, their set was amazing and there was such a feel good vibe, everyone was enjoying themselves.

They released their debut EP titled 'Frames' back in August, including the four funky feel good tracks, 'Afternoon', 'No Healing', 'Always' and 'Mind/Atlas', my favourite being ' No Healing' due to the vibrant distortion of the guitar and the strong rhythmic drum beats reminding me of the early days of Bloc Party. 2005-2008 Indie Rock isn't dead thanks to these incredibly talented guys. The wonderful Lucy Rose who has performed some backing vocals for Bombay Bicycle Club is a fan of Fox Chapel and has said "Reminds me of early Bombay Bicycle Club, imagine they will be really fun to watch live. I'll most certainly try and get down the front." If that's not enough to convince you to check these guys out then I don't know what is.
