Are You Listening? Festival is back for its fourth year on Saturday 23rd April 2016; an event that has seen around 4,000 festival-goers raise over £24,000 for local learning disability charity Reading Mencap over its first three years.

Proceeds from the festival support Reading Mencap, a small local charity that provides information, support and respite services for children and adults with learning difficulties, disabilities and autistic spectrum disorders, along with their families. They are affiliated to the UK’s leading learning disability charity, Royal Mencap, but receive no financial support from them. The festival also focuses on supporting the local music scene from the grass roots level, with it being festival policy to ensure at least 70% of the artist bookings are from Reading and the Berkshire area. Each year, around 70 volunteers provide crucial support to the festival, and the organizers would love to hear from anyone interested in getting involved this year!

Volunteers are needed to help run the festival on the day, with great benefits on offer including a free festival ticket, T-shirt, a meal and drinks!

Please email communityfundraiser@readingmencap.org.uk if you would like to support the festival this year.

Local bands can apply to play by emailing info@bwmusic.co.uk

READING MENCAP - BACKGROUND

http://www.readingmencap.org.uk

Reading Mencap is a small, local charity that provides information, support and respite services for children and adults with learning difficulties, disabilities and autistic spectrum disorders, and their families. They are affiliated to the UK’s leading learning disability charity, the Royal Mencap Society, but receive no financial support from them. The charity has been supporting hundreds of families in Reading for more than 50 years. Their Family Support Service provides individual casework to help families with issues such as poor housing, lack of benefits, hate crime, ill health, special education and inappropriate social care services. They also run a range of weekly activity groups and events for people of all ages with learning disabilities, so they can have fun, learn new skills and get involved in their community. In addition, there are social and informative events for family carers and siblings.

"Value for money, raising cash for charity, highly enjoyable, with a relaxed unpretentious friendly atmosphere and some great music; Are You Listening? is a welcome new addition to the festival calendar."
