Spring King is the brainchild of production virtuoso Tarek Musa who began this project by ripping out a disused bathroom in his house, setting up a drum kit and practice amp and put to task writing, recording and mixing a song each day in his ramshackle studio. Tarek was then joined by Peter Darlington, James Green and Andy Morton. Impressive and stylistically diverse tracks from these sessions followed and ‘Let’s Ride’ and ten-track demo ‘In All This Murk And Dirt’ emerged online creating an instant buzz, resulting in Spring King garnering attention from Transgressive / Paradyse Records who released their first single.

‘Mumma’ was released early 2014 and received high praise from The Line Of Best Fit, NME, FAKE/DIY, Clash and Pigeons & Planes. With momentum building in written and online press, Spring King wasted no time in securing themselves as “one of the most exciting live bands in the country” (DIY). They were hand picked by Huw Stephens to play Latitude festival and following their performance at The Great Escape were crowned by the NME as one of the top ten new bands of 2014. Followed by invitations to play both Reeperbahn Festival and showcases at CMJ, including the official Rough Trade showcase.

Spring King’s EP ‘Demons’ was released via Transgressive / Paradyse Records in September 2014 (8/10 NME) and their track ‘Not Me, Not Now’ featured on the Rough Trade NYC compilation 80N7. Tracks ‘Better Man’ and ‘Can I?’ from the EP received regular air play from Zane Lowe, Huw Stephens, Steve Lamacq (Rebel Playlist), Fearne Cotton, Lauren Laverne, John Kennedy and were also A-listed on Amazing Radio and Evening playlist on XFM.

‘They’re Coming After You’ EP was released on April 20th 2015 on Handsome Dad Records with a double A side out on Mermaid Ave / Mom & Pop in the US. The lead track ‘City’ was premiered on Brooklyn Vegan and listed in NPR’s Top Austin 100, this preceded a hugely successful SXSW where the band played the BBC Introducing / PRSF showcase. On their return Spring King jumped straight on tour with Courtney Barnett.

Incredible radio support followed, the track being A-listed on BBC 6 Music and Amazing Radio, the Evening Playlist on XFM with the likes of Steve Lamacq, Huw Stephens, Lauren Laverne and Zane Lowe again championing the band.

Triple J in Australia also play-listed the track.

This radio support culminated in ‘City’ gaining the first ever play on Apple Music’s Beats1 with longstanding supporter Zane Lowe opening his show with the track. The song’s play made waves across the globe and Beats1’s launch with an unsigned band made headlines sending the band’s profile soaring.

Spring King had a packed run of festival slots this summer including Reading and Leeds, Boardmasters, Midi Festival and Festival No.6. The band have just supported Spector on tour in the UK and Slaves throughout Europe and the UK.

New single ‘Who Are You?’ was launched recently and announced as hottest record in the world on Radio 1 by Annie Mac and has just been A listed on 6 Music. Huw Stephens has also just made it his record of the week on Radio 1.
