Paul Newsome’s Proud Mary w/ The Slams

26/05/2016

About this Event

Originally from Manchester, PAUL ‘SPOT’ NEWSOME is the founder/songwriter for the UK band PROUD MARY who, in this humble writer’s opinion recorded one of the finest albums so far of the noughties, Same Old Blues. Produced by Noel Gallagher, it was a collection of beautiful and elegant songs performed with passion and soul, none more than debut single Very Best Friend.

“A lesson in songwriting” – (Noel Gallagher)

“A classic rock ‘n’ roll band” – (Caleb Followill – Kings of Leon)

Dylan, Stones and Faces influences were there to be heard yet at the same time the band had managed to create a rock’n’roll record that touched the heart and fed the soul of the current generation. Singer Greg Griffin’s vocals left you with hairs standing on the back of your neck and Newsome’s song writing was so touching and personal that you almost felt part of the songs themselves. It was so easy to feel a true connection with what was a genuine rock’n’roll band playing songs about their lives and their dreams.

The album was well received and as a result the band went on to secure support slots with none other than Oasis, Neil Young, The Stereophonics, Paul Weller and Ocean Colour Scene.

The band members are still close, and Paul relocated to LA composing for film and TV; and debut solo album ‘Electric and Palms’ was recorded in Venice Beach, California featuring Elvis Presley’s backing singers ‘The Sweet Inspirations’.

Tonight, Paul showcases material old and new (it is ALL exceptional!) as a three-piece as he did when opening for Noel Gallagher in 2015. Such a wonderful and rewarding talent to behold, you are highly recommended to catch this show!
