BBC RADIO 1XTRA's: MONIQUE B!



DJ Monique B was born and raised in Cardiff, Wales. Growing up she was influenced by the music her parents listened to from the most iconic artists such as Marvin Gaye, The Beatles, Michael Jackson right through to 90's RnB and UKG.



She began her musical journey at the age of 16 as a singer/songwriter. Her first track got featured on Kiss FM which gave her a taste of recognition for her own music. At the age of 18, she started DJing at popular urban events in the city and before long she was supporting some of the biggest acts in the music industry such as Omarion, Tyga, Jeremih, Mario, Wiley plus many more.



Staying productive was key in enabling her to gain recognition. She would create mixes and podcasts on a regular basis and was eager in standing out from the rest therefor, she started to learn different techniques such as cutting and flaring.



In 2013 Monique joined a 5 piece female band, Baby Queens. Their success has been incredible, having performed at the biggest festivals in the UK such as T in the park, Boomtown, The Great Escape and many more. They have taken the music industry by storm being championed by Huw Stephens and DJ Target. Their debut single "Red Light "made BBC Radio 1 playlist and now has over half a million hits on Soundcloud and Youtube.



She has recently featured on Charlie Sloth, Gemma Carny and Nick Bright's show presenting them with 15 minute mixes which were aired on BBC Radio 1Xtra. During the summer of 2015 Monique had an involvement with Universal Music Group DJing at the British Street Food festivals held around various cities throughout the UK.



Currently, Monique has secured a residency at Glam nightclub which is the most established venue in the city. Mayfair Sessions is an event that the club hosts once every month and has expanded its location to various cities around the UK and Marbella in the summer of 2015. This has abled her to expand her audience and gain recognition outside of the UK.



In her own words "I would like to think that I encourage other females to get into DJing without selling their sexuality, I believe music has no gender and we should all be able to rock a club"



Monique B is definitely a name to look out for in the near future.
