About this Event

Cityscape Ensemble: SINGLE RELEASE GIG!!

Ethereal, euphoric and energetic, jazz fusion sextet cityscape meld together a wide range of influences from minimalist composers such as Steve Reich and Terry Riley to the jazz fusion giants Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock. Their members have played with some of the most exciting names in Jazz and Soul such as the Neue Grafik Ensemble, Steam Down, Charlotte Dos Santos and Liv.e and have performed at venues such as Ronnie Scott's, The Royal Festival Hall and The Elgar Rooms (Royal Albert Hall).

After meeting at the widely attended FOLD jam session held initially in Hilly Fields Park in Lewisham at the easing of lockdown before taking it's home at the infamous Matchstick Piehouse in Deptford, the project has grown through using riffs, motifs and melodic phrases as frameworks for expansive, creative improvisation: leading to compositions inspired by everything from Cornish landscapes to mental health struggles. Since then, the project has performed sold out concerts at jazz clubs (such as Toulouse Lautrec, Notting Hill Arts Club and CLF Art Lounge) and alternative/ rock venues (Matchstick Piehouse, Amersham Arms etc) alike: both with an incredible reception from promoters and audiences.

This gig celebrates their debut release Contemplation: a single composed by bandleader Harry Trevillion in response to using walking and meditation as tools to acknowledge personal growth.
