The Craig Charles Funk & Soul Show

01/07/2016

About this Event

A childhood raised on Ray Charles, Louis Franklin, Otis Redding and Nat King Cole set up actor, radio presenter, comedian, entertainer, DJ and all round good-guy Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show perfectly to be the country’s favourite one stop shop for the golden era of 60s/70s black American music and beyond.

Craig says, “Five or six years ago we thought we’d take the show out on the road, and we haven’t stopped touring with it since. It’s really good time fun music y’know, appealing to all ages and people have a ball!”

Our man’s career started at 12 yrs winning The Guardian Poetry Award (the runner up was 33 yrs…) and he did warm-up slots for Liverpool bands making his TV poetry debut on Riverside and Wogan.

Recognised worldwide as Dave Lister – the curry-devouring, last-surviving human in BBC 2’s hugely popular sci-fi sitcom Red Dwarf – he has also been seen and heard as a performer or presenter on a whole host of programmes as diverse as Through The Keyhole, The Bill, Corrie, Radio 4’s Kaleidoscope and of course the irresistible carnage of Robot Wars.

In the past Craig has been a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company, has toured his stand-up show and done panto (in Dick Whittington). He continues to front his own band, The Eye.

Tower Of Power to Bootsy Collins, Heatwave to George Clinton, Johnny Guitar Watson (now THERE’S a real mother for ya) and everything soul and dancin’ and funkin’ thing in between!!
