Atlantico are Britain's leading exponents of Cumbia, the rootsy music most closely associated with Colombia. This dynamic 10 piece band includes three percussionists, accordion and a full horn section. They are a mix of Colombian UK residents with vocalist Antonio Porras who has sung with many distinguished Colombian musicians and British musicians from jazz, rock, soul, African, Klezmer and Celtic backgrounds. Some of these musicians have toured in Colombia. Atlántico’s wellspring is the music of Cumbia’s golden age in the middle of last century, when the big bands of Lucho Bermudez and Climaco Sarmiento thrilled audiences with the loping rhythms of the Porro. But they bring high energy enthusiasm to all varieties of the sensuous “Musica Tropical” with which Colombia’s Atlantic coast pulses. Whether they’re playing cumbia, vallenato, salsa, merengue, or mambo, you will not be able to resist dancing!
