About this Event

Liverpool's award-winning celebration of reggae music and Jamaican heritage returns in June for a jam-packed weekend of cultural appreciation and positivity.



Winner of 'Best New Festival' at the UK Festival Awards 2016, Positive Vibration will play host to a plethora of internationally renowned bands, legendary sound systems & selectors, The Art of Reggae Exhibition, a Reggae Q&A, creative workshops, a record fair & market, and plenty of tasty Caribbean food & drink.



Headlining this year’s festival is King of the Sound System, Jah Shaka Sound System and 2 Tone legends, The Selecter.

For the avoidance of doubt, no person under 18 shall be granted admittance on the Friday. Children are able to attend the Saturday only, subject to being supervised by a parent/guardian.

THE ART OF REGGAE EXHIBITION ///



This year sees the return of The Art of Reggae Exhibition - a successful collaboration between Positive Vibration and the International Reggae Poster Contest (IRPC). The exhibition, which supports the Alpha Boys School in Jamaica, will showcase 100 reggae-inspired posters, designed by illustrators & artists from all over the world. You'll also be able to bid on the posters.



The exhibition will take place from 7th June until 9th July 2017 at Constellations, 35-39 Greenland Street, Liverpool. The viewing times are subject to the venue's opening hours and other events taking place.

THE REGGAE Q&A ///



There will be a panel discussion taking place on the Saturday of the festival, at which, we explore the impact of reggae on British music, culture & society.



The Panel includes:



- Pauline Black - iconic frontwoman of 2 Tone band, The Selecter, Pauline is also a successful actress, broadcaster and author of music bestseller, 'Black by Design'.

- Dennis Bovell - founding member of Matumbi, pioneer of Lovers Rock and highly sought-after producer, Dennis is a true legend & innovator of British Reggae music.

- Mykaell Riley - former member of Steel Pulse and founder of the Reggae Philharmonic Orchestra, Mykaell is now Head of Music Production at the University of Westminster and Director for the Black Music Research Unit.

- John Robb - award-winning music journalist and bestselling author, John also fronts Punk bands, Goldblade and The Membranes. He will be leading the Reggae Q&A.

WORKSHOPS ///



On the Saturday of the festival, we will be hosting a number of creative, educational and dance workshops for the children, including:



- Dub Poetry with Levi Tafari.

- Arts & Crafts with Square Pegs.

- The Rastaquarium.

- Capoeira with Capoeira For All C.I.C - Community Classes.

- Soft Play Area.
