TICKETS ON SALE 9AM MONDAY 31ST JULY

It was 26 June 2014 when Ben, who was then working as a van driver (contrary to popular belief, it was a black van, not a white van) auditioned in Newcastle for the 11th series of the X Factor. Despite his nerves, he won over the judges with his rendition of Bill Withers’ “Ain’t No Sunshine”, receiving 4 “yes” votes. Simon Cowell told him he couldn’t believe he didn’t already have a record deal.

In September, he wowed the judges again in his arena audition, performing the Rolling Stones’ “Wild Horses” in front of 5,000 people at the Wembley Arena. Once more he secured 4 “yes” votes, to progress to bootcamp. This time, Simon Cowell told him, “You’re going to be one to watch.”

At bootcamp, for the Six Chair challenge, he was the second person to take a chair. He captivated audiences with a passionate rendition of the Eagles’ “Hotel California”. Given one of the six chairs in the Judges’ House, he had to compete with 5 other over-25s, in Simon Cowell’s £18 million Charlie’s Angels mansion in Los Angeles, to secure his place in the knockout stages.

The rest is history. He was never in the bottom two, and ultimately made it to the live final. He went head to head with Fleur East, with both contestants performing the same winner’s song, a cover version of One Republic’s “Something I Need”. Fleur was the bookies’ favourite, but Ben won on the public vote.

Immediately after his win, Ben signed a record deal with Simon Cowell’s Syco Music. His winner’s single, “Something I Need”, made the 2014 Christmas No.1.
