SoCal trio Dizzy Dustin, Young Einstein and Andy Cooper as Ugly Duckling have been giving clichéd gangster hip hop a run for it's money since 1999, rallying playfully against West Coast scene macho posturing and gangland glorification.Not so much of the bitches, bling and guns nonsense, but more like The Jungle Brothers, A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul as old school beats overrun with tag-team MC-ing, audience participation and finely tuned super-scratching.Tight party jams and feel-good raps serve as a timely reminder of the original elements of hip-hop, when substance came before style and rhyme came before crime.Always on form … this is really good stuff!
