About this Event

A high-energy piano and percussion duo serving up the sounds and spirit of the bourbon bars and Mardi Gras, paying homage to the piano legends and songwriters that have shaped the sound of New Orleans. Sophie Smiles plays boogie-woogie barrelhouse piano, singing Louisiana rhythm & blues and southern soul classics. She's accompanied on drums, percussion and vocals by rhythm king and recording artist Joe Cooper and Alex Keen of Dom and the Iko's on bass.



A multi-instrumentalist Sophie returns to her piano roots and lead vocals, inspired and encouraged by the late Dorris Henderson - friend, vivacious singer of the sixties, daughter of a clergymen and grand daughter of a blackfoot indian - with whom she lived and recorded her last two albums. Outside of her own original music projects, recent productions have included a live recreation of The Last Waltz and The Voodoo Revue, a musical tribute to Louisiana funk, soul and psychedelic Rock and Roll.
